Default Starting to mod/change my FXDWG

I bought a 2001 FXDWG from a guy here in town last November. I bought the bike because it was pre 2003 and because it had very low mileage and was already 95" which is in my opinion the perfect size motor.

I took the heads off when I got it home and ported them and put in better quality valves and springs.
Now the bike runs great but it looks like ****!

I'm finally getting around to making it look the way I want it to.

This is what it looked like when I bought it.

Today I got rid of the ugly rear fender and made an air filter cover to replace the hideous football air cleaner cover.

Here are the pics....

And...

There's lots more coming in the near future as I transform this bike into something completely different than what it is now.

Over the next few months, I'm going to get rid of pretty much all of the chrome.
Install FXRT hard bags
Install an FXRT fairing
Install FXRT fairing lowers
Lots of black powder coat
14" or 15" T-bars
Better rear shocks
Floating rotors
2 into 1 pipe
and lot's more......

I'll be posting tons of photos as the build progresses.

Yeah....I can't stand the look of those things, never liked them, even when all of the "chopper guys" were making them themselves.
I still have it....I'll be selling it along with all the other stuff I'm taking off of the bike.

I've never left any bike I've ever owned alone, I always change them.

I didn't buy this bike because it was a Wide Glide...In fact that's why I almost didn't buy it. I've never been a Wide Glide fan.
I bought the bike because it was a very clean, low mileage pre-03 Dyna, and that's what I was looking for.

If I find someone at some point that wants to swap all the Wide Glide stuff for all the Super Glide stuff, I'll do it and even do the labor myself if they want to bring it down here.

I knew what I was gonna build when I bought it....

If the original owner had known what I was gonna do with it, he probably wouldn't have sold it to me, 'cause he was very proud of it and talked like he wanted someone to cherish it the way it was.

He saw it yesterday while I was out running around after the fender swap and looked at me like....WTF?

i like the way it looked when you bought it. Thats what freedom is all about though...doing as you wish

I have a 2002 myself. I specifically seeked out a older bike because i wanted the simplicity of a Carb and liked the looks more. Not to mention not needing a computer to do work on the thing. So out of curiosity is there something significant about pre 2003 bikes that has your interest? I come across that comment often and not really sure why and what makes them significant vrs newer other than FI.

Pre 03 twin cams had the better crank, and less run out issues when installing gear drive cams
