Ed, I think you may have gotten a bit more "perspective" than you bargained for. But, the comments making the most relative sense come from lenrough re the properly tuned (and optimumperforming) engine, and the one from SLORider regarding the relative insignificance of your scoot compared to those freighters bringing in the "efficient" rice-burner autos.
Bottom line - as stated - do what ya gotta do!
Hope you enjoy the ride!!
Well It doesn't really matter what you do because if you really cared about the environment you would sell all your internal combustion engines to the Chinese......kick your wife to the curb and move to Tenesee to worship your holy lord Al Gore........this thread is a frickin joke....
<Figure it this way, if it's "stock" it's not "properly tuned" and therefore runs HOTTER, >
You might be onto something, probly THE cause of global warming. BFG- Dave...
Ed.....
Here's my take on it. I ride my bike as much as I can (commuting to work especially) b'c my other vehicle is a Chev 2500HD diesel. I figure that no matter what my bike spits out, it's better than what the diesel spits out. As far as conserving gas....use as much as you can. The faster we use it up, the more expensive it will become, and will force us to come up with an alternative fuel and get away from Mid East oil (how's that for an alternative philosophy??). I could go on and on but I will stop there........
Not quite understanding things here. How would a free-flowing exhaust add to polution?? Looking at my 06 Dyna, I dont have any Cat Converter, I do have an O2 sensor, which didnt change with the addition of my SEII's/AC. Maybe I'm missing something??
More free flowing exaust and intake + a bit more fuel = cooler running engine, more power and approx. the same fuel economy and negligable difference in smog. The steet legal issue with pipes isall about noise, not smog. Tuning for a bit more power will make a very small difference in the amount of smog the bike puts out... until you go to radical cams with a lot of overlap.
If everyone rode motorcycles instead of 12 MPG SUV's, we could kiss reliance on the Arabs goodbye and any thought of global warming (real or imagined) also.
You bought the wrong bike to be politically correct. You should have bought a liquid-cooled Honda. Just remember that when you trade your Harley in on the Honda, that whoever buys it will immediately make the changes that you are hesitating to make so the bike will run cooler, and make more power. They will thenenjoy it more and therefore end up saving fuel and pollute less because they enjoy their machine enough to ride it instead of driving their 12 MPG SUV.
This is just another case of the government.........some in the government and the media, convincing somebody that they know what is best. Come on, since when did we need the government to take care of us from day to day. Can't or won't people recognize that the liberties that were given to us long ago are now being taken from us one by one. An Iceberg melted, Oh my God what will we do..............Damn.
