Looking for a good auto tuner for '14 FXDB
I know what tuner to get, gets beat to death. But I'm looking for one that has a good auto tune function without spending $800+ to get it. Or are the canned tunes/ adjustable tunes that good? I'm fairly confident when it comes to working on my own stuff, but EFI tuning and making changes in my own tune scares the bajesus out of me!
I ride my bike every day that I can to work, so I'd like the auto tune for when I put exhaust and an intake on it and not have to mess with potentially going through multiple tunes before I find one that gives me the best mix of performance and fuel mileage. (I'd like to keep in the 40+mpg range for daily driving) As well I was told custom tunes/ auto tuning allows a bit more performance than just flash tuning can... but I know some "flash" tunes that you can get from places like DynoJet on their tuner come off of dyno'd bikes. But the powervision has a screen, and I really dont want a screen on my bike.

Well I have the vance and hines fp3, no screen on your bike but as many have said it probably has limitations on adjusting your own tables as you can with power vision. I used the canned maps and thought it was pretty good (python exhaust), it was excellent when using stock exhaust. I just finished an auto tune, I don't know that it's much better than the canned map but we'll see. A little decel popping but nothing major. I haven't looked at fuel consumption yet but I will starting tomorrow and report back. I have same bike. Definitely plug and play though

Im in the same boat as you, and everything i've read points to the Powervision from Fuel Moto. They will set you up with a good baseline map, and offer lifetime support. As far as the screen goes, you dont have to leave it on the bike, once you are done tuning, you can flash the ecm, an remove the screen. It really only needs to be on during your auto tune sessions.
Im sure more guys will chime in that have way more knowledge on this stuff than I do. But as far as bang for the buck, you cant go wrong with the PV.

Powervision from Fuel Moto - it comes with basic tunes, has Autotune capability, also allows you to down-load to your computer and make any fuel/air modifications you want - allows you to mount the screen to your bars and monitor just about any gauge you want, change your idle speed and make future changes if you make additional changes to your scoot for around $500.00

and is getting the tuner from fuel moto worth the extra $80 over another store? especially if I'll probably end up using the auto tune feature? and how good is the "basic" auto tune over getting the wideband/ pro auto tune kit to go with it? (another ~$225)

are you using the basic auto tune?

the wideband kit is probably overkill for a basic stage1. if you start doing other things (cams, 107+kit, higher compression ratios, weird fuels) then i'd go with the wideband kit. the basic tune gets it mostly right assuming you stay within the afr range of the o2 sensors (in the mid 14's).
but I'm not so keen on how the Cobra tunes constantly and may not save my factory tune?
that being said a good continuous tuning algorithm is better than static tuning.
