mine has the 11" and i was worried at first but i have it on the lightest preload and i have only hit the belt guard a couple times with someone on the back
I have an 05 WG, and was thinking of lowering it. How do the shorter shocks affect the ride? I really like the way the bike handles now, and I've heard that lowering it will compromise the ride. I know I won't be able to lean it as much; I already scrape the heel rests occasionally. But was just wondering what else to expect as far as the ride. Thanks.
When you hit anything except your pegs while riding your normal routine -YOUR TOO LOW - nothing like the feeling of hauling *** and lealing into a turn only to have the bike ground out and pick the bike back up - sending you into oncoming traffic. Ground out hard and the bike can slide on the frame and front wheel - nd really give you a near death experience...TOO LOW CAN KILL YOU !!!
I left my stock shocks on and made a set of shackles to lower it 2". I have not bottomed out yet but a hard left will let the sparks fly from the kick stand, and a hard right will get the sparks flying from the protection plate under the bike. A "hard turn" is accelerating hard in the turn. Now that I know my limits it don't happen any more. Dave...
My bike is set up to just drag pegs now. I didn't like hitting the pipe as it really messes pipe wrap.
EXPERIENCE -you bet - had a jap fake Harley thatI practiced on for a year...riding up in the mountains and approaching the only passing lane - tight turn to the left and a big right sweeper opening up to 2 lanes. Speeding up towards the center line - the bike needed to lean WAY over - I wrestled it over and heard a loud bang (as the frame grounded out) and the bike popped back up - I was not going to make the turn...backed off the gas and leaned the bike over more gently this time and just missed oncoming traffic. (OR)
Following a buddy on his 99 Dyna - he had a big girl on the back and grounded out in a high speed turn up in the mountains - bike carried across entire roadway slidingon frame - would of hit oncoming car - but traffic was light - LUCKY!
I'LL STICK WITH - YOU SHOULD NOT HIT ANYTHING OTHER THAN YOUR FOLDING PEGS WHILE RIDING....
