So, I'm looking to move up to a 23" wheel on my FXDWG to help improve the ride quality and eliminate a lot of the shimmying I get on that skinny *** 21x2.15" wheel. Here's what I'm looking for:
1.) 23x3.25 or 23x3x5
2.) Similar look to stock (40 spokes, black rim, polished spokes and nips)
3.) Addition of a vivid black hub
4.) Decently affordable
I already spoke with HDWheels.com and all they have available right now in 23" is their Apollo-SL (smooth-lip aluminum) 23x3.75. With it looking the way I want, I'd be looking at about $1295. I'm definitely not opposed to aluminum, but I'm not so sure if I want to go all the way up to a 3.75" wide rim. I want it to look like something that may have come from the factory, not something that looks a little out of place. Will .25" have that effect? I dunno, may or may not.
Anywho....where do you guys recommend I look to acquire such a front wheel? Thanks!

Going To a 23 will lower the tire profile and not improve ride quality. Going wider will but unless you run fenderless you will need a different fender. Now for looks the 23 will look sweet. DNA makes an affordable mammoth spoke 21 that you can get in multiple widths. Going to a 120 front will be best option IMO.
You dont need a different fender when going to a wider rim as posted above. Ive got a 10 wide glide and am running a 21x3.25 southern mc wheel and a 120 tire and it fills the front fender out and makes it hug the tire. Minimal clearance but it does fine. Im trying to post a pic with my phone but its not working. I'll try to later if i think about it. Also a 23 will not improve the ride
I got a set of wheels and tires from southern mc for right around 2k which is a damn good price for wheels and tires. They even have a package for rotors and a pulley that matches. For around the same with no rubber. Top notch customer service as well

looks like a bikini on a fat chick with a stock fender and 120, better to mod a fat bob fender lid to work as that will give you complete tire coverage on a 120 setup. i did it with my old fender set up
None of the vendors I use make a 23" 40 traditional spoke wheel unfortunately. 23" front are usually either 3.5" wide or 3.75" wide depending on the manufacturer. The 23" tire is a 130/60/23.
You might also want to look into doing just a wider 21" front wheel (21x3.5) with a 120/70/21 tire as that will also increase your ride quality. With a 23" you will need a different front fender. With the 21" you can squeeze it under the stock fender with that 49mm front end.

This will detract from handling and tire availability. A 23 inch wheel is purely a cosmetic mod.
I am running a 23x3.75 on my 2010 wide glide. It made a huge difference in the handling of the bike. I didn't notice any different in the actual ride quality. Coming from drag bikes and dirt bikes, I love the look of the narrow front wheel. However, I won't go back narrow on the street.
