Default Dyna strut cover madness...please help

OK so I have read conflicting stories on this matter and I'm going nuts:

Several people on this forum have said that the chrome fender strut covers from an early Street Bob/Low Rider/Super Glide will work on my Fat Bob when I change over to the Wide Glide rear fender.

I just read a post from a member that did the swap and he said that he learned the hard way that the covers are NOT interchangeable.

Does anyone have any first hand experience or knowledge of the Street Bob/Super Glide/Low Rider strut covers fitting the slightly wider rear end of a Fat Bob or Wide Glide? Perhaps definitive knowledge that they WON'T work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I can't get a positive answer, I might just have to spend a few bucks and blaze this trail on my own.

I've got a set.that I notched the backs of for some turn signal wires, they are only good for mock up now, but you can have them for shipping if you want. I don't think.they fit though, pretty sure.the fb had longer struts

Wow, thanks man. Thats going above and beyond. I think the struts themselves are the same legth, but the covers are obviously different. At least this way I'll know for sure. How much shipped to 12110?

Default Strut

They won't work. The shock hits the strut cover. everything else would line up correctly so i guess if you went with diffrent shocks it may work or if you cut out a section around the shock mounting hole you could get it to work. What i am going to do is cut the stock strut covers down and add alloy art turn sigs. Hope this helps and saves you some of the greif i went though.

Thanks for the info. That helps a ton. I actually thought that might be the case. I changed my stock shocks for Burly Slammers, so I wonder if they will work correctly. I'm gonna have to try it, and possibly mod something to make it work. The thing that made me think that was the case was seeing a thread started a long time ago. This guy's bike looks like it has the Street Bob stock brushed aluminum covers on it, but I couldn't be 100% sure:

Wow that just saved me money and time since I was just about to buy a set but had thought about cutting them and installing those. Good to know.

I have a 2008 FXDF - kept the stock shocks and put on a 2010 FXDWG fender. Bought a set of strut covers that (I think) were from a Super Glide ... kind of a brushed chrome look. They DID NOT fit with the stock Fat Bob shocks.

The length was right, but the Fat Bob shock rubbed against the strut cover. Tried putting a washer in to space it out, but it didn't create enough room.

I hear the Wide Glide covers work, but the WG shocks are thinner than the Fat Bob ones. So without fitting the up, I am not 100% certain of that.

EDITED: I have a set of Super Glide strut covers for sale if anyone needs 'em

The HD website lists the stock FatBob shocks as an accessory for the Wide Glide. That tells me that they would all fit together.
