Im working on a 2008 soft tail custom It was wrecked and the face of the speedo was busted and water destroyed it what I have been told by Harley if your current speedometer is dead you cant make the new work. Im hoping someone knows how to map a new on to the ECM

I just swapped out my speedo on my Fat Bob. Plugged the new one in, turned the switch to the ignition position and the new speedo received the mileage data from the ECM. Works like a charm.

I believe that's correct. The new spedo needs to read the mileage from the spedo its replacing...so if they can't communicate, you can't program the new one.

Others have found another working spedo to 'use'. i.e. a friend with similar mileage.
