Hello all. I'm having an issue with the security light on the speedo intermittently flashing on a 2011 Heritage Classic. The bike does not have a security system. What happens is during braking (only occurs when using front brake), the security light will flash twice then stay solid. To get it to shut off, all I need to do is squeeze and release the front brake, and it won't return until I brake again. The brake light is not on when the security light is on and the only thing I can think of is that the bcm thinks the brake light should be on and it's not, so it thinks the bulb is bad. When I activate the front brake, the brake light works as it should. Is there a brake light activation switch in there that may need adjusted or replaced? The bike is new to me and the light does not create any running problems. All lights are factory as far as I know, but controls have some chrome covers on them that I don't think are stock, so I don't know what else in the switches may have been modified. Ideas?
I'm not familiar with Softails but on late model touring bikes with BCM's the security light comes on when there is a current codes are present in the BCM.
Have you checked the bulb?
Canbus model bikes have a system where if the brake light element in the bulb is blown, it will send extra current to the taillight element to increase brightness to act as a brake display.
It would also show your security key icon to warn you of an issue.
With luck it's as simply as that.
