A grunt as you first start to crank the motor. Especially on a car. On a Harley, it will grunt till it drags thru clearing a cylinder. Quite often, it will start with a loud bang kick fwd starting or back puffing thru air filter. This gives all the tin men time to swoop in and sale you other stuff. And of course, those sold all this other stuff feeding the BS.

Gonna revive this one, since I am having issues with mine. Battery checked out ok (voltage, 305cca vs 310 rated). I tightened everything up, left it on the battery tender for a day, tried to start it and only heard chattering (starter not engaging?). If I use the compression releases, it will turn over....otherwise, if I don't use the releases, I have to use a charger and boost it to get it to fire. I just recently bought the bike and am starting to thing that there just isn't enough battery to fire it up consistently. 114 inch, 10.5:1. Thoughts?
My thoughts? Purchase a new battery with more cranking amps. You have a hot rod motor with high compression. You need a bunch of cca. Edit. I noticed that you are in a cold climate. Cold is not good to batteries. Also cold oil does not flow well. Making it harder for that big ol V-twin to turn over. Good luck.
