hopefully i won't make this to long . I was out for a ride been riding for about 1 1/2 hrs and it was like someone turned the key off have plenty of battery but no power to lights or starter or anything trucked it back home checked the breakers with key off and have power to main breaker.. key turned on no power to any breakers. took all wires off breakers except ignition wires from key key on all breakers good but no matter what wires i put on next my power goes bye bye to my breakers what could be causing all my wires be grounding out the only on that is not is the wire to my starter relay any push in the right direction would be helpful thanks in advance this is on a 1990 fxrs bone stock
volts at the battery are 12.45 and the same at main breaker but when i check my power wires at my other breakers with them not hooked up to breakers i check continuity at ground and get continuity to ground can't understand that. its with all the wires that go to the breakers
Leave the breakers connected, forget about checking continuity to ground (of course those circuits would have continuity to ground, that`s how it works, the power goes into the wire, through the bulb or whatever it goes to , then goes to ground..)
Right now you need to check for system voltage.
Touch the negative voltmeter probe to ground, then one at a time, read voltage at each stud on the main breaker.
What are your readings?
Next, read voltage where the wire from the main breaker connects at the ignition switch (red wire).
What is the voltage reading?

voltage at main breaker on both studs is 12.58
voltage at ing. wire is 0.04 volts
like i mentioned before once those wires are connected and the key is turned on my volts go to kneel on all breakers
With ignition switch on (and all breakers connected), read voltage at the copper color stud on the ignition breaker and the accessory breaker, there is probably a copper bar connecting them, if so , just measure the voltage at that bussbar.
no the back is sealed. On the post with my ignition wire i get 0.04 volts
sorry for the delay in answering i was looking only at my post that where posted and the same on my main breaker thats with key on
Make sure the tabs on the ignition switch are not corroded. They get oxidized over time and don't make good contact.
Clean both the male and female ends, use dielectric grease on them when you put it together.
