Charged battery, bike has been sitting for a few months and went dead. Charger indicated the battery was ready to go. I unplugged the charger turned the switch on and heard a big pop!!! What was that? Main fuse? If so where is that located? Oh it is a 01 Electra glide
If you don't have an owners manual you can view one on the H-D.com site under owners to find the fuse location. Try the university of you tube you may find a tutorial there on the mail fuse location.
First thing I would look at is the main CB, big pop can happen CB blows, then no power at all to anything. Main CB could be in a permanent failed state as well, disconnect both terminals and check for continuity across. Battery could also have an internal short so as Dan suggested check the voltage across the terminals, this would also cause a big pop and then no power. If you are not confident in doing electrical work then I would suggest that you take it somewhere to get looked at (dealership, reputable Indi, etc. . .) as these can be a game of chance to see where the pop came from. I recently worked on an Electra Glide that had the battery leg of the maxi fuse rubbing on the ground connected to the starter. I had to replace the and reroute the wire to prevent a recurrence of the chaffing issue. This got my attention as I was jacking down the rear end to do a rear tire change and had a big pop with sparks. If the other leg had worn through this would have popped the maxi fuse.
