Unhappy Hooking up trailer lighting

I have both a 2014 and 2015 Ultra Limited. I have a Bushtec Quantum trailer, which is slightly newer (2016, I think). I would like to hook up the trailer lights, which work just fine with my 2003 Ultra Classic. I understand the newer bikes have a Can BUS electrical system, which is not compatible with the older style wiring. If I get what is called an "Electronic Relay Isolator" package, will that create a separate electrical path for trailer lighting? If I hook up the trailer lights now (with the existing Bushtec harness), the trailer lights look screwy, some are off, some are too bright, brake lights are half on, half off, etc. Does anyone have experience with this? I can't believe that we can't use trailers any more with any new Ultra Limited. Bushtec is no help at all. There must be a way. Thanks for your help. I am out of ideas.
