Default Charging question

Maybe you guys can help me I recently replaced my battery my voltage regulator three-phase and my stater and I am not showing 14.4 or even 14 she holds steady at about 25 to 3000 RPMs at 13.10 13.20. Even at 75, 80 miles an hour it does not go up why am I not seeing higher readings. when I come to a stop light she gets down to about 12..5 I takeoff and she goes back up to 13.10 13.20, does that sound right to you ? I thought I'd see you go all the way up to 14.2 or 14.4 but no. I had the battery load tested and it's fine stators brand new and so is the voltage regulator I also cleaned up the ground wires and any other wires that I could get you I'm baffled what do you guys think. It's a 2006 FXD I 35 with a 88 in.ł engine Dyna super glide

Are you using a digital VOM to read the voltage or some volt meter connected up to the battery?

I would check the battery at rest to see the readings with a digital VOM directly at the battery, then start it up and check the voltage at idle, then check at 3,000 RPM.

Volt meters can be off quite a bit.

What is the AC voltage coming out of the stator?

Put a decent meter on it in the garage, and rev it up. It should hit around 14.4 volts DC. If it does not unplut connector from stator to volt reg. Rev it up it should hit around 80-100VAC. 20 volts AC per 1000 RPM roughly,

Stator needs to send it to volt reg. Volt reg needs to regulate it to battery. Battery that has been sitting for awhile, should read 12.7 dc, but evem 12.3 will start, but maybe time to watch.

Ok I'm gonna have a friend over to help . BTW the multimeter is a reg. One, what's a VOM. Reg. Battery and stater...38 amp are all new just days old

Not sure what a reg is? A a digital meter that reads decimal points is best for stuff like this. Otherwise they just reas, 12, 13, or 14.

Check to make sure all 3 phases are connected inside the connector.

If OK, then check for shorts to ground and opens between windings. If OK the next one is harder, Check the voltage to ground of each alternator line while connected to regulator and running..

It's my bet that the motor is losing 2 phases of the 3. Regulator is low on output current... Current is harder to check as you either need a resistive shunt or current probe.
