Depending on the year it's used on and speedos part number it may be functional in some years that used a cable to update the mileage in the speedometer. You'll have to do some research, start at h-d.com, part number, directions to see what years it fits and the mileage update procedure.

It's a tough call with speedos. I've read that if there are over 50 miles put on one, they lock to the bike they were installed. I also see several OEM speedos for sale on FB marketplace. Even H-Ds website says for certain years but then I see speedo/tach sets on years other than what was listed. Even H-Ds website isn't consistent. This page shows the KPH/MPH, KPH, and also the MPH-only versions on the same ad.
