Default Security Battery

2006 H.D. Fatboy CVO. I have to be right up close to my bike to get the security to arm or disarm. Sometimes not so easy. There is a battery in the security module behind the rear fender splash guard. Can the battery get weak? It’s a rechargeable battery and the bike is kept on the tender when not riding. New battery in fob. I don’t see a antenna on the module. Any help is appreciated.

It makes sense that you need to be in close proximity else you might be further away and someone could turn your bike on. I think mine operates at around 4 to 5 feet.

The battery in the siren box is just for that and not the security device itself. Being it is a Ni-Mh type it will go bad after some time and will need replacing but again that has nothing to do with the security device only the siren.

4 to 5 feet would be acceptable but I have to be right on top of it and sometimes it takes several tries. I have tried moving around the bike in different places but seems to make no difference. The person I purchased my bike from didn’t have the original fob, I had to purchase one from the dealer. I have programmed it several times.

Check the antenna wire coming off the security module. It may not be in the optimal location.
