I have a 2019 Ultra Limited and the radiator cooling fans are not working. The water pump is working, the only reason i found that the fans were not working was that i had i parked idling and it got hot and puked all the coolant out.
I checked the fuse its is good. I check that the fans spin by hand, i checked power to the fans and they get power as soon as i turn the ignition on, i roll the throttle and only the water pump kicks on. I doubt that both fans would fail at the same time.
Just cant figure out why they will not come on. Could it be the coolant temp sensor?
When you turn ignition on and roll the throttle full open the pump and fans should all come on regardless of coolant temp.
The BCM provides system power to the Cooling Relay, it pulls in and power from the cooling fuse is routed through the relay contact to the pump and fans. At 221*F the ECM provides ground for the fans and they come on.
No codes thrown which I'm surprised by, considering that it got hot enough to puke out all of the coolant.
I did figure out that it is a ground issue causing the fans not to work, now i just need to find the wire that is not grounded.
i turned on the ignition and rolled the throttle then i connected a temporary ground wire to the fan and they came on.
That’s the problem. The ECM controls the ground. The ECT sensor is a thermistor, when the coolant is cold the resistance is high and when coolant is hot resistance is low. At 221* the ECM sees a certain voltage from the ECT sensor and grounds the fans so they run. Your sensor maybe bad, I don’t know if it has anything to do with the ign on full throttle test.
