Default Ground issue?

I had my motor rebuilt and rebuilt my transmission and redid my swingarm myself. Put it all back together and when I was installing my battery I touched the screwdriver against the saddlebag support while I was tightening down the positive terminal and it arced. My ground strap is tight at the frame and primary. My negative battery cable is connected tight at the starter to primary bolt. Any idea what could possibly be causing this? 1989 flhtcu

Yeah you connected the positive to the negative (ground) through your screwdriver. The whole frame and any metal connected parts are part of the ground system if your negative side of the battery is connected. Always connect the positive side of the battery first, then the negative side to prevent this from happening.

Also use a 10mm socket and ratchet instead of a screwdriver so you get the connection tight. Mechanics tip: put electrical tape on your screwdriver or socket extension if you are working around electrical components
