Neutral Light Help

My neutral light has been out on my bike since I got it. So the other day I was putting a new ignition switch on it & found that there wasn't even a bulb in it (85-99 Softail dash). So I got a bulb for it and the light comes on when in gear and goes off in neutral. Anybody have any idea what the problem is & what I need to do to fix it?

Not sure but I'd check the neutral switch on top of the tranny (on Touring bikes anyway). Take it out & clean it. It that does not work they are not very expensive.
