Definitely not a major problem, but a mystery to me. It's an '85 FXRS. I bought it 4 years ago and the neutral light didn't work...no big deal to me, as I've never had a bike that even had a neutral light (older HDs and Brit bikes).
I figured it was a bulb, and never gave it a second thought. Then one day, the light came on! What? So I knew it was not a bulb. The light came on every time I hit neutral.....for about a week. Now, it's dead again. Ideas?
My neutral light began to flicker a few weeks ago. I pulled off the lead attached to the neutral sensor on top of the transmission cover, cleaned the contact area on the lead wire and the sensor, tightened the clip at the end of the lead with a pair of needlenose (it's a circular clip that fits over the sensor), then reattached it. Worked fine after that with no flickering.
Possibly it's just loose on yours too. Doesn't cost anything to check anyway!

Mine did exactly the same, was just bad connection at the trans. I could wiggle the wire and it would come on, did same as 1/2 Crazed and no more probs.
