Default Hybrid turn signal problem

Not sure if anyone can help but here goes...

Just bought an 81 Tour Glide that has a 2000 Road King front end. Take a look in the garage. One of the pictures shows the front light setup.

When I bought it the turn signals didn't work, meaning if I held either signal button in, the specified indicator would come on solid as long as I held the button and go off as soon as I let go of the button.

Holding both buttons in does not activate the hazards as indicated, the signal lights would just stay on steady as when trying the turn signals. However, there is a toggle switch near the key (just below to the right) that does activate the hazards.

Reading the forum I concluded the the installed lights may be the wrong size (not enough wattage to trip the turn signal flasher). Opened up the RF signal and sure enough the bulb was the wrong size (1155 I think) so put in an 1156 (same as the RR, single filament) and... it worked! A little slow but still blinking.

So I move on to the left side. Oddly the LF already has an 1156 (as does the LR) but the socket is badly corroded so maybe that's the problem. I clean it all up and reinstall to no avail. The light still comes on steady.

So the problem must be a bit deeper.

FYI, there are two wires coming from the side lights. One from the clear top light and one from the amber turn signal light.

Related issue, I have to hold the right turn signal button in for it to flash. As soon as I let go, the light goes out. A friend has a front end that looks identical to mine as far as the turn signal, run, start, horn, etc buttons, and cables. He tells me that he presses and releases the turn signal button and the signal flashes until he completes a turn and then it automatically turns off. His bike is a 2010. My question is, what controls the automatic turn signal function?

Can anybody give me some advice on how to get this straightened out?

Thanks!

Default Solved

In the event anyone cares, I figured it out. The new controls on the handle bars on the 2000 Road King front end only have 6 total wires. The old harness on the 81 Tour Glide has 7 wires going to the handle bars. The right side was hooked up correctly. Initially it didn't work because of an incorrectly sized bulb. The left side was done incorrectly so the turn signal always stayed on when the button was pressed. Wired the left side correctly now I have turn signals functioning as long as the buttons are pressed in. Hazards as long as both left and right buttons are held in simultaneously. Hazards when the hazard switch is flipped on. Yay!

So now the issue of the signals stopping when the button is released. I realize now this is because the newer bikes have a Turn Signal Module hooked up. Is there any way to get this module to work on an older bike?

If not, how far back would I have to go for turn signals that do not use the Module?

Thanks

Later bikes have a solid state flasher module, which includes several features including a time delay to switch the indicators off. Take a look at Badlands, as they make a wide variety of modules and they may have one that will suit your bike, so you can press on, then press off.
