Default turn sig. problem

I've got a 96 flstc, when I push the switch the lights come on but wont blink.some times they will blink once or twice but thats all(when riding)
when the eng is off (trying to track down the problem) they work fine.
I've changed bulbs, checked all of the grounds.Any help is greatly appreciated.

Take a look at your regulator. If it's not rectifying and filtering the AC completely it may affect operation of circuits. You may have enough voltage, but too much AC 'ripple' can disrupt things. When parked you have straight DC from the battery.

would'nt that affect the other lights as well?
I haven't noticed a problem with any other lights.

Other lights, while on steady, would not be as affected (by ripple). The flasher unit may be affected by the nature of how it works internally. It's a mechanical relay type timed switch. The ripple can affect how the relay operates.

Try to locate and replace the blinker relay first. Should be between the tanks, under the console.
