Electrical problem need help
Hey guys..I have a fxrc my problem is my head light only comes on when I hit my front brake and motor starts missing....and when I let go of the brake handle head light goes out...and the miss goes away...can anyone help..Thanks for your time
Check your headlight wiring. It should come on with the ignition, the fact is doesn't suggests there is a defective wire. Get the headlight working correctly and you will probably find the cause of the problem you describe. If you can't find it, take your bike to an indy or dealer. Don't mess around trying to find a needle in a haystack!
Buy a $15 volt meter from walmart or Advance,ETC....try to find an analog style as easier to read.
First dis-connect the headlight and see if it still causes the engine to miss.If possible dis-connect AT the headlight. If it runs good now then at least you know the issue is in the headlight or connection to switch.
If factory uncut wiring the headlight will run to your ignition switch.Re-connect the headlight at the light, and Dis-connect at the ignition switch. If still runs good then not between the headlight and the ignition switch.Just a process of elimination.
Use the meter in "ohm" mode.It shows continuity. If you connect the red to a positive lead, and the black to a frame ground and get a reading then you have a short.Check wires going to headlight, ignition switch, and brake lever switch.
Of course this is assuming you have factory style switches, and wiring.
I doubt you have a bad ground. Most likely a wire shorted out from being pinched,or bare,or connected wrong.Neither the brake light switch,or headlight should be connected to ANY iginition wiring. They should be supplied power from the ignition switch direct or via junction terminals under the gas tank.
