Default HELP- both rear signals flashing when i hit turn signals?

did a search and didn't find any solid info. i have a 2009 street glide and just wired a 2010 fender for it per instructions i found here:
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...ar-fender.html

problem is when i hit either left or right blinker, BOTH rear signals flash? the 09 harness has 6 wires (1 ground) and the 2010 has 7 wires (2 grounds). so i split the ground from 09 harness and connected to the 2010. brakes and run lights work as expected, only prob is with signals.

also, i don't currently have any front blinkers installed. could that be the issue?

thanks!

Sounds as if you have wired both rear indicator lights together! I can't help thinking that you could have combined the 2 grounds of the 2010 rather than splitting the single ground of the '09. In any event, retrace your steps, ensure the grounds are sound and look at how power is getting to both light units at the same time.

thx for reply grbrown.
you are correct, i actually combined the 2 grounds from the 7 plug and married them to the single ground on the 6 plug.
tonight i tried solving the issue again:
-hooked my front blinkers back up (so that's not the problem).
-also checked individual continuity on all 6 wires and they seem ok too.
-did a bulb swap (made no difference).
i'm pretty much out of ideas?

Difficult, without being right there! Power is getting to both rear indicators, either because they are directly wired together, or there is an unintended wiring short-cut the electrickery has discovered.

thx for the suggestion grbrown. but, hmmm. i'm not real sure on where to look for the power running together (i soldered each connection and individually shrink-wrapped each joint prior to placing back in large channel). any ideas/suggestions on how to locate or test for such electrickery?

Not easy to be frank. As they are both lighting up, power is getting to them both at the same time. I have an '08 rear fender and lights on my bike and IIRC you can disconnect each indicator inside the rear light? Follow the wiring from each light back through the bike, from the bulb, so to speak.

Most electrical problems like this are actually mechanical. In other words there is a wrong wire connection, unintentional ground, or some similar thing that shouldn't be there. A second pair of eyes might help, if you have a buddy with a bit of suitable experience you can call on. A can of beer or two may help.....

that gets me thinking... i never actually saw the lights functioning correctly on my new fender because the seller had already removed it from his bike. maybe the issue is in the unit instead of the harness. thx, i'll keep you posted.

ok. so quick trip to service dept @ dealership and they suggested testing each turn signal at each connection point from under seat all the way back to bulbs w/multimeter. when activate either blinker, blinker side voltage alternates roughly from 1.5 to 10.5 and NON-blinkerside voltage holds steady at 7.4 . these results are consistent under seat and at end of harness back where it attaches to light fixture.
but once i hooked up lights, they both began blinking again. so dealer suggested either the converter in the fascia tri-light or the bulb sockets are the issue. i replaced the fascia tri-light and had the same issue. dealer didn't have the bulb socket wiring in stock for me to try.

fair to think bulb socket(s) are my issue?

Difficult to say, I must admit! Those voltages sound low, as I would expect to see around 14 volts at the bulbs. What about the fronts, which work OK? What voltages do they see?

fronts work great, and don't seem affected by malfunction of rear signals (other than rapid blink). run lights are high 11's, and blinkers very slow alternate 3.3 to 8ish.
