Headwork on S&S 124
I hard charged for the 90 minute ride to Gardner, 80-90 on wide open rt495. This thing's just an awesome throttle roll on beast from 70-100 wow
I pull up to Robs shop and it's very tidy and extremely clean. He sends me around the corner to top off my tank (doh!) and then I return to get started. He looks at what I have and comments on my open "home made pipe" and Thunderjetted carb. " lemme guess, it runs like ****" he says. "I see a lot of wrong things" "Ummm no, it runs effin great actually, and that is an RB Racing pipe. I reply. " I don't like their pipes they flow too much" Hmmm not off to a good start but this is the 1st time I've met Rob and everyone can have a less than great day right? Maybe an open pipe and big flow carb suck??? He was extremely pleasant and knowledgable via email which is why I made the trip.
He quickly drills the headpipes and install the 02 sensors. He gives the thunderjet the hairy eyeball again. "Most of those I see don't do anything and are only good for 117" and up movin lots of air and ported heads" yup. I understand completely.
It's showtime. I've never seen a dyno session so it's kinda like watching someone else beat your child. 1500rpm in top gear, then held wide open to redline, several times?!?! My eyes!!! I can't watch!! The roar is deafening even with ear protection. Robs looking at the monitors, romping the throttle, checking numbers romping.
Rob clinches the fuel feed to the thunderjet and then does some more pulls, then shuts the rig down
He shows me air fuel ratios, explains the differences between the cylinders, shows me before and after with t-jet bypassed. Most of it sinks in.
"Very impressive" he says. "125HP and 152lbs torque " "Who did this motor?"
I tell him heads and carb work from Hillside, whom I requested good highway burning power delivery, 2up a lot yada yada, and assembly/final tune by RAT Racing
"You have a perfect tune Mike. It is spot on. t-jet is doing exactly what it was designed to. There is nothing for me to do. Enjoy the ride"
He charged me a small fee for his time and away I went. Sweet! Now I can really romp on this thing with confidence. No ping ,nothing! Gobs of torque the peak is at 3780
This is the perfect result I was hoping for. Scott at Hillside is the MAN! I got EXACTLY what I was looking for. And xxtra thanks to Henry Thibault at RAT Racing for perfect assembly and patience for putting up with me. Rob and I had a nice chat before I left and he replaced my seat bolt which dissapeared at some point on the way there. I gave him a lead on an old bike in a barn as well. I'd definately go back.

When is it ever fast enough????
When I went from my EVO to this 103 two years ago, I thought I was riding a rocket!!! Since then - I've went with a stage I, then two different cams, now a full blown 117 build haha
I may be in a S&S 143 before it's all over :-) ...... Then head work on that one hahahaha
