Default Parts Required for Cam Change

So with a cam upgrade (2014 Softtail), what's the required parts list? Is there a mandatory list (like cam bearings, gasket kit, etc) and/or a recommended list (like different lifters, adjustable pushrods, etc) for SE cams? Thanks guys.

There's a lot of "while I'm in there(s)".

Send me a PM with your email and I will send you my list in Excel with pt numbers. It is almost complete but contains parts that I saw were damaged but had nothing to do with a cam change, like the air cleaner cover seal. I took the costs from HD and also is the Woods TW222 cam & lifters that I am considering.

Just did my 2012 Ultra Limited:

Woods TW-222 cams from Fuel Moto - $380
Cam Gasket set (includes Timken inner bearings) from Fuel Moto - $59
Exhaust gaskets - came in above kit
SE TAPERED Adjustable Quick-Install pushrods from HD - $189
Comp Cams 850 lifters from Jegs - $79
Assembly lube from Jegs - $7
Spark Plugs (just because) from HD - $8

While you are in there, some do an Axtell bypass valve or baisley spring for your oil bypass valve (I didn't)

Similar to above, sorry I don't have the part numbers but:

Andrews 57h Cams - $199
S&S Quickee Pushrods - $179
S&S Hydraulic lifter - $104
Heartland Cam bearing installer/Puller - $95 (i"ll be selling mine after the change)
Torrington B168 bearings - $13
SE exhaust gaskets - $8
O-rings for oil pump and area - $3
Cam chest gasket - $9
SE Heavy duty clutch spring - $34
lifter Cover gaskets -$15
Locktite (because I don't have any) - $12
Assembly lube (Because KY won't work) - $9
Primary Formula and lube top off for clutch spring swap - $9

I think that's about it $680 or so all in, but I intend to sell my bearing tool afterwards. In my case I'm also combining the cam swap with my 5k mile service so add in oil, filter, etc.

As someone else mentioned, there's a lot of "since I'm already doing it stuff". In many cases that would be the lifters to replace the stock ones. Whether you really need to... everyone has an opinion based on the quality of the OEM stuff. some cams will allow you to use stock pushrods but more work involved since tank and rockers need to come off. The savings on going that route are not as substantial though as some may think since you then need to replace gaskets up top as well. Still it is a savings, but in my case someone rightfully told me "what if you make a mistake or there's some problem and you need to go in again", similarly the shape of my cams are different enough from stock that even though I could get by with stock pushrods it was insinuated that I would be better off with adjustable ones. Likewise some people re-use some gaskets but I figured why bother.

You need to change cam bearings on a brand new engine?? Are they a different diameter or something?

Also, what's the benefit of the adjustable pushrods? From my research, pushrods are replaced just because you can cut the stock ones out without removing the top end and the rocker arms? Seems like a bit much, so I'm guessing there's other benefits.

Cam Bearing and Lifter replacement is strictly optional.
Inspect and decide.
Adjustable Pushrods will save you time on labor, however replacement is optional for most cams (Camshafts with a different base circle can create the need for different length pushrods to compensate. Smaller than stock cam base circles are common in high lift cams).
