Check it out. Note that the HD lifter is the "B" lifter, not the "C" lifter but I believe the "B" and "C" lifters are the same dimensionally. The "B" lifters were manufactured in the US by Delphi but the "C" lifter is manufactured by ????? (maybe Delphi) but in Mexico. There have been quality issues with the "C" lifter, most relating to the roller attachment and surface plating quality. I won't every buy a new Harley but if I did, I would yank the "C" lifters from the jump and replace them with something better; anything would be better.
Just an update, the Melling small block lifters from Autozone......
Measured everything I could and dimensions were exact. Installed and ran bike, very very quiet. Time will tell if they last. I will update if one fails in the next couple years.
2079 and 2148 are the same lifter. Most are actually made by Top line under their Johnson brand. The outer housing is exactly the same as HD but the internal valving is different. I know this because I asked this exact question of them since I talk to them almost every day. They don't recommend the Chevy lifter for Harleys. If you can find a local source for Topline/Johnson the HD lifters are quite a bit cheaper than the dealer and are the exact same part.
When did Harley switch from the B lifter to the C?
2010 model year IIRC. Plenty running GM SBC lifters in TC motors with no issues. Crane used to sell both and sold the same lifter for SBC and TC applications; only difference was the packaging. If ordering CompCams 850-1 lifters, specify made in USA by Delphi; call and place order, don't order online and the 850-1 lifter is made by more than one manufacturer, offshore IIRC.
Okay, after reading gobs of forums I think it's a safe bet that Chevy Small Block lifters are the same as Harley "C" lifters. Even the stock HT2148 (federal mogul) for $10 each at any parts store. My question is; has anyone actually run these stock chevy lifters for any amount of time? Are they lasting as long?
I love finding ways around the extra cost of parts, accessories, etc just because of the HD on the part or in the description.
THANKS
Was faced with this when replacing my lifters.Went with S&S......there's NO question........................
