I am sure this has been talked about on this thread, but when I searched, nothing came up.
my question is weather to have my crank done at darhorse, or put a different crank. besides the welding the pin, has any one had an s&s crank slip?
I am not a hot rodder like i used to be, but I am going with gear drive on this next build. It will stay with the 103, a new exhaust and a good tune. nothing radical on this build.
I would like to here your opinions on crank shaft.
On my softail build, and now my touring build, I've purchased S&S units. It made sense to me after I weighed out all the costs associated with upgrading my stocker.
On my old Evo I used S&S and it worked great. On my twin cam I went with Darkhorse since I wasn't changing the stroke and mine had balance issues. They rebuilt my crank with new bearings, properly balanced and welded. Bike is amazingly smooth at 3000 rpm compared to what it was. As I rev it out it stays that way. Very happy with their work.
On a reworked crank you still have what is reported to be a weak sprocket shaft. The S&S is reported to be stronger overall, as for price I would guess with shipping back and forth a new crank could be had for the same price as a rework and you will have your old crank to sell.

When I did my 113 build I used Dark horse.
They did the case and crank.
If your staying with the stock stroke I would consider the S&S crank.
If going stroker, Darkhorse
