Gear Driven Cams??
Hey guys...so I searched, but couldn't piece this one together!
Gear driven cams in a late model 103...I know they come chain drive; is gear drive a mod that folks do to swap it over to that? Are there kits or something to make the swap? Was looking at them on S&S but couldn't really figure it out.
Is there a performance difference or just the benefit of getting rid of the chain drive? Do they whine?
Thanks for the info!

Gear drive improves valve timing stability over chain drive due to eliminating the chains/tensioners which expand and compress slightly during the open and close cycle of the valves at high RPM.
You need to have .003" or less crankshaft runout to use gear drive, so bklynbob is correct that 99-02 motors with forged crank/Timken bearing are best suited for gear drive since the 03-up motors tend to have (much) higher runout.
The gear drive will make some noise but not obtrusive if runout is <.003" and they are setup with correct lash (.0005" - .001").
