Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Not sure how I screwed up and posted in the general section of the forum. I don't often even read that area on a regular basis. Anyway, for anyone who is interested in what I got out of the 95" build with S&S 570 cams, 10:1 pistons and headwork, see below. I was hoping for mid 90s, so I'm happy with it.

I know that you already know it, but can't resist reiterating that those pipes are killing ya. There are other 2>2 pipes that will readily eliminate that torque dip.

Not so hotrod. There is no dip, just a steadily increasing torque curve that starts at 95 ft lbs, passes 100 at 3750, and stays above 100 ft lbs to 6k. The curve is driven by the Crane 296-2 cam profile. As you know, I have run the RB Racing LSR and the V&H Pro Pipe and the Pro Streets outperformed them both overall.

But I was referring to hobobiker his torque is only starting to recoup at 3400 with 80#.

Oops, sorry hotrod. This occurred to me during a ride this afternoon. Please accept my apology, friend. I just get over the top with all the assertions that only 2>1's produce big power, but you did not do that. If there weren't so many poorly designed 2>2's, this common misconception would not be so. Should have known that you are beyond that.
Yep. Surprised me that it was so bad. Thinking about a d&d 2:1...
D&D's Fatcat makes excellent midrange and top end power, but I recently read that they have changed the headpipe and are not what they used to be. Don't know that for a fact. I do know that they are among the heaviest pipes on the market (~30lb IIRC) and are expensive. Personally, I'm not crazy about the looks, but that is up to the individual. Most riders that own them swear by them.

It's all cool. I just wish his build performed thay way he wanted it to.Also I learn something new every day..... Ride On Brother......Safely
