Default Question about installing cam bearings in case

Getting ready to change cams in a 103. In the service manual it says to measure the depth the bearings are pressed into the case. Is that really necessary? Haven't seen it mentioned in the two videos I watched. I have installed cams in two 88's but this is my first time on a late model. Thanks.

What does it hurt to spend the extra 30 seconds to measure it and put the new bearings in at the same depth?

Thanks. I didn't want to have to take the install tool apart numerous times to get to a specific depth.

You'll see the beveled edge of the case once you get it apart. If I recall, the bearings go in just past flush to the bottom of the beveled edge. Just tap it in until it's in that spot. It is fine!

yup! I use a piece of delrin (plastic) to tap the bearings in,you can get it from McMaster carr.just machine the end to loosly fit in the bearing.remember to always install with bearing #`s facing out
