I'm sure you guys have been beatin to death with questions like these, and I have done alot of reading but the information isn't consistent. I'd like a straight up answer from someone who has had it done
Bike is an 06 fxd 88 tc, with an ac, and 2:1 bassani
My goal is- 95" big bore
-mild cams
-stock heads
-hydraulic cam tensioners upgrade
-dyno tune
Harley quoted me 4k with the dyno tune.
I've seen people saying they have had it done for 1500$ at an indy shop
Or others spending over 5k
What is a realistic cost assuming labor rate of 90$ an hour plus above mentioned parts
Well for starters. If it's an 06 Dyna then you don't need a hydraulic cam tensioner upgrade because yours has it. They started in 06 with the Dyna models. The cost can vary if you use your cylinders or buy new ones. I wanted new ones so I bought new ones. I would recommend a kit like ss cycle sell if you decide to buy new ones. Using your old cylinders is preferred though because they are already heat cycled.
95 kit = 700
Or
Bored cylinders = 150 plus pistons and rings
Cams = 300
Tune and tuner = dependent on which one you buy and the tuner dyno
Cam bearings = 20 bucks
Gaskets = 50 bucks
Labor on the high side maybe 10 hours
We have a bunch of engine builders that are posters here in this section like Scott at hillside and Kirby from veetwin (prodrag). I use them and would recommend them for boring or just calling to ask questions. They both sell kits. They both sell cams. They both do port work. And they both can bite your cylinders

Good advice above regarding picking a builder such as Kirby or Scott to guide you so that the cams, etc will work well with your heads/pipe and both offer full packages for competitive prices with highest quality parts and machine work.
Some additional items beyond what is listed above:
Maybe Jason was including the dyno tune in his 10 hr labor estimate (I think that 8 hrs is more like it plus dyno tune).
Also, remember that the labor rate is $100+/hr at a HD dealer vs $85/hr or maybe lower at a good indy shop and the quality of work ( and especially the dyno tune) will generally be far superior at a good indy shop. The dealer's quote of $4k stated in the OP is outlandish.
4K is WAY over the top! your getting close to a mild 117" build there.1500.00 to 2000.00 should take care of it (close to 2000.00 should include mild headwork too)ide go 98" or 95",same price

Yea dealer wanted 4k and that's with no headwork . The price is absolutely to much I was hoping to spend 2500 or less including dyno time. but they want about 2k just to do a cam at the dealer. We have 4 hd dealerships in town . But indy shops that do any motor work are far and few. One I know of is a new shop so not much of a rep yet
If anyone knows a legit ship in vegas or within a few hours travel let me know

Our 98" mail-ordered kits with headwork, come in under that even allowing install labor.

What kind of power gains would a bolt in cam provide? I'd like to go 95 and I know it's best to do it all at once but out of curiosity would a cam alone provide a noticeable power gain?

Noticeable power over a stock motor? absolutely. You could easily improve it by 15% or more with a Cam, pipes and air cleaner upgrade and a good tune..
