Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Looking for some guidance from the group. First off, 103, woods 222 cams, basanni road rage B1 pipe, high flow AC, power vision. For the most part, the bike once warmed up runs just fine, but where my issue is would be during startup. the bike will start, but i have to feather the gas to keep it running or it will cough and try to stall out. it does this until it gets to about 150 degrees temperature. does anyone know why it would do this? i have autotuned with the PV, but not professionally tuned. any ideas?
Autotune is no substitute for a proper dyno tune IMHO. That will also get you in front of someone skilled in diagnosing running problems. So if your bike simply suffers from poor fuelling, or whatever, he will either be able to sort it out, or advise you on the problem. You may be surprised just how well your bike rides after it is done!
The PCV is a good for ballpark tune but like Mr. Brown says no comparison.
If you do decide to get it tuned by a reputable tuner on a dyno, I'd love to see the results. I my self am thinking of getting a second bike with a103"er and going with the 222. I believe that cam in a stock 103 with pipes, a/c and a good tune should be capable of 115 tq and 107 hp. Might be wishful thinking but i think the numbers will add up. Thanx...

It sounds like the low RPM/low pressure (high vacuum) area of your tune needs some attention, if the Minimum MAP settings were not changed from their defaults when Auto Tuning you will likely find some of the cells in the VE table were over-corrected causing a slight lean spot. This should not be difficult to get fixed up. If you need any assistance you are welcome to contact us.
Hey Jamie, is it still possible to somehow pull the tune file off the PV and send it to you guys to look at/possibly adjust? I bought the PV used, but got my unlock file from you guys about a year ago. How would this process work? And if possible, maybe a dummy's quick guide on how to do it?
btw, to answer others, the bike runs pretty darn good once it gets to operating temps. no issues at all. i DO know that a full professional tune would benefit me, and i would love to do one. only thing is, i have been eyeballing doing a 107 hopefully before the spring and i don't want to spend money on a tune only to have to do it again in 6-8 months.
