Update: I put the starter back in the bike and it works like a champ. I am going to replace the battery anyway since it is 4 years old (but it did test good on the load tester). I did replace the circuit breaker but only because I broke one of the terminals off when tightening up the nut (my fault... too much torque). I also replaced the relay even though the old one tested good... it was 24 years old... only a matter of time...
I do have one more question for you all... the service manual says the bolt torque for the starter mounting bolts is 13-20 ft lbs... is that right? Doesn't seem like much torque for bolts that large (I have found other typo-o's in this book).
Thanks guys for all the quick replies to my thread!!!

4 year old battery? I replaced mine at 3 just for general purpose.
Thanks for the reply. Where would I get a "direct starter button" and where does it mount to?
I have a starter pinion shaft that sticks on random occasions so when I press the starter button, it will only click even though the battery is new and fully charged. Last time that happened, the bike was left sitting in a parking lot while I had to find an indy that had one in stock and pick up tools (hex wrench or 7mm socket depending on your starter) to install it.
Drag Specialties, J&P Cycles, eBay...
It is the equivalent of jumping a battery directly to the starter. Do not press while in gear (causes the bike to jump), do not let kids near it...
