No you can't change twin cam lifters without raising the lifter blocks.
No you can't drop them out the bottom (the inboard lifters) because they will hit the case material around the pinion side of the crankshaft.
No you don't have to oil modern HD lifters unless the manufacturer says to do so. I use Comp Cams 850s and S&S lifters; neither require being soaked in oil.
Hey Stiggy can you give me a little more info regarding what you said to do to avoid lifter clack? Do you mean just finish up everything and before running it for the first time, remove the spark plugs and hold down the start switch for 30 seconds? Is that what you mean?

Yep, it spins real easily without the plugs in and pumps up your lifters completely before you really fire it up.
(You'll probably already have the plugs pulled since you're rotating the motor as you're installing pushrods anyway.)

I'm finding that the gaskets on both the cam cover and lifter blocks are seriously on there. They're just coming of in tiny pieces. Any suggestions as to how I might get them off without having to use a blade to crape them off? Maybe quick passes with a torch to loosen them?
