Well as you can see from my other post my new lifters came in today. I am soaking them in oil over night & plan to install tomorrow.
My question is, I extend the lower of the push rod till it seats with the lifter. This is zero lash, should the push rod spin freely?
Once I make the adjustment 2.5 turns (24TPI SE tapered quick install twin cam pushrods, complete kit #18404-08) at this time I will NOT be able to spin the pushrod till it bleeds down.
this remains the same even though the lifters are new & have never been pumped up???
I put a set of those lifters in my engine. Did the exact same thing soaking them in oil overnight. Found that it did pretty much nothing for filling the lifter with oil. You will find that the lifters will bleed down almost as fast as you adjust the pushrods, atleast that's what they did for me. So far no problems with them, Nice and quiet with a headquarters 33 cam.
I've done this with car lifters, put them in a coffee can filled with oil and push the inner part down and relieve pressure slowly to suck in the oil. they won't fill if you just leave them. not sure how your going to push them in and out with a wheel on the bottom tho

WOw you were not kidding, took my time because lets face it I don't want to screw this up. Lifters did bleed down fast. Won't get to start it up till I get the new map from fuelmoto.
Mud, That's one serious tool you designed there, sure beats putting them in a coffee can and pushing inners up and down with an old pushrod till the air bubbles stop!!
I'm gonna try that Vacuum cleaner trick next time.

Yes, assuming you have the piston at TDC on the compression stroke; lifter on heel of cam.

Yes, but suggest 2.75-3 turns; a little more preload will tighten valve train and minimize the potential for noise.

Yes, the lifter will just bleed down faster but you won't be able to spin the pushrod immediately after preloading. Don't worry about lifters pumping up. Vaccum machines and all the gimmicks are totally unecessary. Installed dry, the lifters will pump up in about 30 seconds. If it makes you feel better, by all means do it but it isn't necessary.
