Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Enjoying a ride the othe day and my 2005 RK Custom started losing power like it was out of gas. I get it off the road and it dies.
My Indy starts pulling it apart and this is what they see.
I just spent 10 grand on new a baker 6 speed, paint, apes, and other improvements last winter.
The engine was worked on 5 years (cams, heads, etc)
What would you do? Put another 6-10 grand into the engine and sell it or keep it. That would be app. 20 grand since May.
Or sell it as is with blown motor.??
It's so easy to become emotionally attached to your bike, and so hard to make a rationale decision on it's fate. I have poured good money after a bad decision only to buy a new one because of reliability issues that I just could not accept. What that means is I made the wrong decision at the wrong time due to being too close to the problem. Step back, get a 3rd/4th opinion. Good luck.
I'm sure your wife is upset about the money you have been spending. Mine gets that way too for whatever I buy for my bike. Ask her to be honest if it was hers what would she do, fix it to make herself happy again or sell it and loose more money. I would fix it and take the hit. She knows your not exactly happy about this and she will only be able to watch you for so long being upset and hopefully tell you its ok to fix it.
Thanks for the replies. What is also holding me back is the amount of upgrades that have been added. From works shocks, Baker, seat and light, etc. And it rode like a ****ing champ. 165,876 km on her. I am going to check it out now so I will update later.
You got 100k miles out of the engine. If mine goes at 100k, I'd be ok with that. If it goes at 20K, I might be a little upset. I say tear it apart, rebuild it, big bore, new heads... ride on.
