Default Low - Mid Cam Choice for 103

Greetings,

Spent the better part of the summer futzing with an Andrews 57h cam install. Have everything working and now having about 2,000 miles on the cam, I'm coming to the realization that I'd like something with some more bottom end grunt. The 57h starts showing it's stuff above 3k rpm and really shines higher in the revs. The low end is still stronger than stock, but not by much. I knew this going into the purchase, however, you don't know what that translates to in real life until you actually experience it. Not to say the 57h is a bad cam, far from it. For me, it's rare for me to run the revs above 5k, so something that has more meat on the bottom end would make sense. However, those times that I'm am heading into the upper rev range, it is nice having the zing.

Cams I'm considering....

TTS-100
Woods TW-222
Andrews 48
Cyclerama 570 (I think that's the one)

I'm looking for something that pulls well from lower revs, but don't want to sacrifice too much of the upper end performance of the 57h. Something that has pull from 2k to 5k rpm's would work for me.

Edited to add: Since I already put in Torrington cam bearings, would I have to change these out again?

From the S&S website:

"583: Optimized for use in the Softail®/Dyna® lines, this cam makes horsepower and torque that you can feel all the way through the rpm range, making the most power right where you need it:1500–5000rpm. Bolt-in."

I have this cam & love it.

I have had great results with respect to low end torque with the SE585 cam. Over 100 lb already at 1500 RPM. It hits about 125 ft.lbs at around 3k RPM. I'm also running stock heads and throttle body.

A cam install kit is $26 and well worth the money. SOP for me is to replace them with new cam.

Have you thought about headwork. The 57 likes compression and will hit harder down low with it.

I have had good luck with the 555tqster from Tman as a bolt in.

We use/stock both the Andrews 48, and CR .570.
They seem to work VERY well in the plug/play applications.

Was hoping you would chime in.

Is there a preference between these 2 cams, or just go with what's cheapest?

Also, I had replaced the cam bearings with Torrington bearings for the Andrews 57h install. Would these need to be replaced again. They have about 2k miles on them.

Add the TTS100 or TTS150 to the list; bottom end grunt in spades.

Here's the dyno chart https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyno-...rossbacks.html
But you're running 7 more cubic inches and almost a full point more compression than the OP. Not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

With that said, my vote would be for a cr570. After going over more dyno charts than I like to think about, a 570 with a .030 head gasket gives the most consistent and solid low/midrange gains than just about any other cam I've looked at. In fact, this combination is slated for my FXDL this winter.....
Here's a dyno sheet that Cycle Rama sent me. 103 Street Glide, stock vs. 570 cams. I realize that not all will likely get results like this, but it's nice to dream.....

The TTS-100's work well. Especially for the description of wants that the op gave. No need to pull heads to change gaskets, they work great without any change. You'll like 'em. I'm sure there might be others that will work too.

Thanks for everyone's input.

Budget choice = Andrews 48h at approx. $250'ish
TTS-100, Tw-222, CycleRama 570 are more.

Is there any distinguishable difference between the cams listed? Is there a some kind of performance advantage to the TTS-100, Tw-222 or CycleRama 570 that justifies a higher cost? I could be very wrong, but they all seem within fractions of each other in listed Dyno tunes.

Do I need to change the bearings again if I just changed them 2,000 miles ago?
