Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
So my buddy has a '15 SG that he's bumping up to a 110"He said he'd make me a smoking deal on his takeoffs so I could go to 103".What all is involved in doing this? What all parts do I need to get from him?I can do all the work myself, and am considering cams while I'm at it.Can I use my throttle body assy.?Thought about getting a tuner as well.Any advise before I start spending $$$?
Mines an '07 Softail Custom.
Don't think you need much at all. Gasket kit and oil. Replace your jugs and pistons with his. May as well throw in a cr575 cam too and get a good tune afterwards.
This is kinda what I was hoping for....easy swap.So as far as a tuner, could I just theoretically set a tune for a "103 w/ V & H pipes and open intake",or would I have to do anything special?Thinking a PV tuner, and Target Tune. What about the throttle body?Would they be the same or would/should I just use mine?
Assuming 85cc chamber, and a .030" head gasket,(10.0 cr) you'd be in good shape with an Andrews 57, S&S .570, or a Wood 6.
You could, however, also include a set of good cylinder heads, and a port-matched intake manifold, to up the power.
Scott
As Scott suggested, I'm not too sure about the Andrews or S&S cam but I do know that the W6 carries a real nice curve and carries it out very well to 6k. The attached is in an 80"er that Scott built. I know it's not a 103"er but i'm only posing it so you can see what to expect from the W6 cam...
SORRY, but I'm having a problem Finding the dyno sheet, when I do I will post it....
