Sorry to say but I have to say, I'm having a very hard time believing that the 570 cam only upgrade can produce 100 lbs of torque at 1700 rpm in a stock 103" motor.. hell I'm not even sure I've ever seen a 124"er do that. I need more proof...

I'm not too sure that run wasn't done with a .030" head gasket. I have a dyno chart in my files that Darren sent me that looks really similar, and it was done with a .030" gasket. Still pretty impressive, all the same. And make no mistake, Darren knows his stuff when it comes to getting the most out of those 570s.

And, notice also how this cam stacks up against the Andrews 57H (in red), also with a .030" gasket. These runs were both done on the same bike, with the same combination other than cams.

So... not to throw a wrench in the works but, what say the cam gods here about the Woods 222 vs. the 555? In an otherwise stock motor with intake and exhaust?

off the top of my head, the 555 is going to be a little soft at the bottom without a compression bump. The 222, not so much, though it would still benefit from a thinner head gasket. The 555 probably would like compression in the neighborhood of 10.5-10.75 or so, the 222 would be pretty good from 10-10.25, maybe a bit more with a good tune.

With that said, I would bet the 222 would be the choice if headwork wasn't being done.

that is the reason I went with the 222's as did not want to do any head work, along with that I wanted something good in the lower rev's. have not had good weather to do a good test run yet but Jamie at fuel moto sent me a tune for the power vision for these cams and so far do not notice any pinging or decel pop and has better low end pick up. when better weather arrives will be able to see more of the results.

Same here, no pinging, no decel popping and it seems to have much better MPG’s. I am very satisfied with both the power and how it runs. Fuel Moto rocks!

The 555 with a later closing intake and a little more duration will have better cylinder fill. Won't come on as early as the 222 but will carry out further... The 222 tops off at 10.1 the 555 tops off at 10.4 @sea level... The 555 will be soft on bottom without a bump in comp....but will come on strong at 2800-2900 rpm... future Stage II heads compliments the 555 as well...

another reason am waiting for decent weather, want to see if is a change in gas mileage, also am thinking can go to mid grade gas, maybe even regular in the cool weather.

I hope Bob, from Fuel Moto, doesn’t mind me posting his e-mail to me, regarding some questions raised here. Keep in mind, Fuel Moto sells all 3 of these cams that have become my favorites.
“Thanks for reaching out to Fuel Moto. I did look at the Forum and I personally do not agree with some of the ideas. Changing head gasket would not be fruitful based on the cost versus outcome. Going to a .030 gasket would raise your compression by a couple of tenths and would, from my perspective, require removing the cylinder to replace base o-ring. If you are doing the work yourself that is not a huge deal but it is if you are not. Any one of these cams would see some gains with a modest increase in compression, but again I do not feel the gain is worth the cost. If you are chasing every possible tenth of torque there are several things to discuss and the largest being exhaust. These are all good cams and lets be honest here the final outcomes will be slightly different at best. No cam in a "stock" motor can offer ten more hp or tq, we are talking about 2-3 differences. I personally like the torque curves we see with the 222 a bit better since it typically is a broader curve than the others.

I hope this is a help and please get back to me with any questions.

Thank you.........Bob”

Bob.... If you’d prefer me to take this down, just ask, and I will do so, forthwith. Thanks again!
