Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I have been thinking about doing the surgery work to my 110. It is out of warranty, I don't feel like getting bent over trying to trade out for a M8. The heat off this motor is killing me though. I can take the heat on my legs, but coming up from the seat and cooking my @$$ and b@!!$ is something else. Would having the heads ported, upgraded cam plate, oil pump,...basically the whole 9 yards...cut down on some of the heat? Or am I just p!$$!ng against the wind?
Well my guy isn't ready to open the engine yet, so we've chosen to try out the Redshift 587 cam. I did a baseline run last Saturday, if this was my bike, I'd very, very disappointed with the MoCo on the price vs power aspect. After i get it installed and tuned, I'll post up a report.

Bumping compression, getting rid of the heat making 255s. Then a good tune and your bike will be running much cooler...not to mention a lot a fun to ride. Scott hooked me up with some headwork and a nice setup for the s and s 570's. Listen to the guys that make their money doing this and you won't be disappointed.

We put those cams in a customers CVO softail that had eaten up a lifter and the cam chest and it made 103hp and 120tq. the top end was pulled down for inspection/cleaning, we didn't mill the heads but did use .030" head gaskets when going back together.
I have another friend/customer that dropped off his '12 CVO Ultra yesterday for the same cams, will get that tuned and post it as well at the end of next week...

I have always wondered why this cam doesn't get discussed more for the CVO or S models, looks like a good choice for a cam only upgrade. Looking forward to seeing more results
Well, here is the second one I promised. This is the RS587 bolted into a stock 110" with the stock 110" A/C with a K&N in it and V&H true duals with V&H twin wall rounds.....Obviously the exhaust would not be my first, second, or third choice for this (or any) bike but it was on there when my customer bought the bike used. Oh yeah, the bike is a 2011 CVO Ultra CLassic.
An S&S .570 at 10.2 cr hits like that, pushing up to at/near 125 ft/'lbs, but brings about 115 hp into the picture, with the use of a 58mm t/body.
The exhaust timing of the .570 helps reduce unwanted heat.

well got the cams in and the base tune loaded, into the dyno tomorrow,,,,i'll post up after i see the results. i did do a baseline run before installing the cams so i'll have a good comparison.

So completely stock compression? Approximately where do these 110 motors come in stock? Are the 110 S motors the same?

Compression would have to be addressed to take full advantage of the 570 in a CVO or S motor application?
