Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I wont give you any advice on the motor work itself...youre getting plenty of good advice you already dont want to hear lol...but i will say this...wait...wait until after sturgis. Youre trying to rush and by doing that you're going throw parts at it just to get it done. Will it be better than stock? Maybe maybe not. There are guys on here that make a living building these motors with known combinations that are dependable and get you real results. Is your bike running now? Yes??? Just spend the rest of the summer doing research, get a plan in place...in the fall start buying parts...winter start your build...spring...spank all your buddies.

LOL - Thanks! I appreciate the feedback and you're right, trying to cram this in in a few weeks likely a bad idea. With more time, headwork on my stock heads is likely the way I would go. I've had great experience in doing that with other bikes (too bad the guy who did the other 3 bikes is who knows where now). I trust my current wrench implicitly so I'll talk this over w/him and decide.
Based on discussion with Fuel Moto, I'll be going this route after Sturgis. Will acquire their 107" kit with these CAMs and will also throw in a set of .585 springs along w/headwork.
Hopefully I can get it done in time to ride a bit before the season ends here in Ohio.

Just talked to my wrench and the TW-555 would likely require compression releases in my heads. The research continues as I would prefer not to do that. S&S Easy Starts on the radar.

Slight dip out the gate but CAMs are always at or over 100ft lbs of torque. I think we have a winner!
If you don't want that dip, look at the 570s.
Well, I guess FM's dyno does have a dip there with the 570s too. That's a product of cam timing and exhaust called reversion. I don't have that dip with the 570s.
The MR103 is a good cam. You'll be happy. They're nearly identical in the power curve. I like the added exhaust duration of the 570s to help with cooling which is an issue how I ride. MR103 97/112 , 570s 98/110

Thanks! I have the Dk Customs Torque Inserts in my mufflers (specifically there to prevent reversion and increase throttle response). So, maybe this CAM will be fine with those and everything else when all said and done.
