Default Shovelhead stroker PLEASE help!

Hello all.
Ive recently acquired a motor and have a question. It's got Delcron cases, Axtell Jugs, JE pistons, shovelheads stamped 77. It's got 3.8125 bore and 4.5 stroke. I'm tearing into it because I wasn't sure what I had and just wanted to touch it all and check for wear and all that. So tonight I pulled the jugs off and there's no base gaskets??? I've heard of guys not using any base gaskets for more hp?? So my question is this. I feel like I should use base gaskets when reassembling but in doing so what will I be gaining or losing?? I really just don't want to f... anything up. Any and all input is greatly appreciated!!

Unless your racing it's not worth not using them..... Crank case pressure will make oil seep out.... I'm sure someone makes a .010" gasket...

very interesting Question, Thinking of two things. First no base gasket for HP??? Im sure there something is used in place like maybe some gasket sealer, another thing I like a gasket but I would check the stroke to make sure the piston don't top out and thats the only reason for more HP I can think of. Good luck

right on. All good information. There did seem to be some very light residue. .010 is the answer.
