Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Hey folks, new owner of a 2013 Street Glide. I LOVE it. Its one hell of an upgrade from my 2003 V Star 1100. lol
I am doin a bunch of chrome goodies, but have a few engine questions:
-My knee (im very short) hits the oval air cleaner that my year comes with. I may in the future do an intake and tuner, maybe even cam it.
BUT, i sat on a 2014 SG, and that style air intake (stock) i dont hit my knee on. Does anyone know if a stock 2014 103 air cleaner will bolt onto my 2013? I can pick one up for about $50, and if it fits, id like to do it.
-Down the road, i may do cams, maybe the woods777. im getting mixed info on if i am required to change the rockers and or the push rods if i do a a cam, or any cam that is similar? i know that doing rockers and or push rods would be an improvement, but is it necessary?
i did my best to search, but couldn't see if the push rod/rocker thing was required.
On your rods and rockers question- no, you don't have to do rockers with a cam change.
Many people cut the original pushrods out with bolt-cutters, so they can short-cut having to disassemble the rocker boxes in order to take them out whole and reuse. It saves a lot of labor and time. Then you put , in their (oem pushrods) place, adjustable pushrods.
I bolted in an S&S 510G gear-driven cam kit on my '05 softail with S&S adjustable pushrods, and it worked out great. Just be aware that getting them tight and adjusted right is super important.
So if you just purchased a 2016 Streetbob and can't afford to do the 1k service quite yet, is it ok to keep riding it for a month or so. Or is there a mileage point I should really not ride it anymore?
