Being new to Harley I undid the factory plug on a 2015 softail .Thread still ok ..Im going to use locktite 565 and screw it back in just need some advice..Is that ok
Just be very careful when putting it back in, you dont want to cross-thread it or over tighten it.
Once you get it in, dont take it out again.....ever.
Get yourself a service manual and read up on how to drain Engine, Primary and Transmission fluids.
Goodluck.
Don't stress over it, there's nothing scary about the case plug.
I've lost count how many Ive pulled when checking for sumping.
I use a liquid pipe sealant. 565 or 567 will be fine.

I agree,remember, use PIPE sealant,NOT threadlocker
565 locktite I have ordered...What a stupid mistake been worry me big style..Harley Dealers worry the pants of me ..But at the end of the day it's just a thread ..
The plug you are talking about is a manufacturing plug to seal engine case from a machining process and not designed as a drain plug. However, a twin cam engine, even though it is dry sump, will always retain 6 to 8 ounces of oil in the crankcase. Over time, after many cold starts, the retained oil becomes fuel diluted and as a result this will also contaminate even fresh oil after an oil change. When i change oil, after draining the oil tank, i remove the pipe plug at bottom of right engine case to purge the fuel diluted oil from the sump as well. This is not a common service procedure. The engine should be hot when removing the plug and it will come right out. Apply thread seal compound and reinstall it to its original depth. I do this every oil change. Dont let it scare you. Just remember it is a pipe plug, install to original depth and don't over tighten.
