I have been debating about which way I wanted to go with getting a little more performance out of my 2007 night train. While pricing out 107 kits I found a set of take-off 103 parts with 500 miles on them. After getting the pistons and jugs in they are good to use without having any work done, and will be saving me some money to spend else where. My bike already has a set of cycle Rama 575 cams in it with adjustable pushrods so I am thinking of getting my heads worked to better complement the cams. I know there are a lot of good companies that do good head work but I am curious if it is worth it. If the gains are minimal I may just order the cometic 9844 gasket kit with .030 head gaskets to do a small bump in compression and invest in something else. At a minimum I would have bronze guides and seals put in my heads.
I'm curious about this.I was told 103 jugs would not fit/work with my 07 Softail Custom.I have a friend that would make me a good deal on his take offs when he did a tire shredder on his '16 SGS.What all WOULD be involved in this?

Whoever told you that is full of pinto beans. You don't need your friends take off cylinders but you could use the pistons and have your cylinders bored to fit; however, I would pass on the take offs and have your cylinders bored to fit a set of new pistons, perhaps pistons with a bit of a dome, say 3cc for more compression. Have your heads worked to be compatible with a new cam set if budget allows. Talk to one of our two forum sponsors about your project and they can help with a build plan.
The most important part of this upgrade will be matching compression to cams, fuel management system and tune.

Those 103" cylinders will bolt up, but a quick hone a fresh rings would be a good thought.
Another avenue is to bore to 107", and our kits come with all gaskets, and we set, and install the rings.
An S&S E-Z Start .570 matches the compression of a flat top piston 107"/.040" gasket, and we have clients out there that were VERY happy with that combo.
Just a suggestion.

I really need to call you,and look into this.I didn't realize I was underpowered until I rode my 103" SGS for a while, then hopped back on the Softy.
$$$$$$$$ money money money, why do you think you have to spend 10 grand to get good horsepower out of a Harley Davidson? Using 103 take off jugs do a quick hone job and your good .. everybody on here wants you to spend more damn money....
