Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Just bought a 18 Street Glide and I have been looking for a full cam install video. Been looking at cutting the pushrod method with buying the S&S ajustable kit. I saw the Fuel Moto thread on here but cannot see any pics for some reason. Has anyone done this using the S&S kit? If so what are your thoughts.
So I cut the pushrods, bought the black lifter blocks and tubes, bought George's install and removal tool for the bearing (awesome by the way) and endless other goodies. I bought all parts from Fuel Moto. The cam is the Woods 22X. Everything taken apart, bearing pulled and installed, torqued cam plate back on, tried to turn the cam, no bueno.
Took everything back apart, up on further investigation the stock cam has a lip on the bearing journal that goes into the case, the Woods does not, so it slides all the way in and the first lobe hits a case support. Guess I will be on the phone first thing Monday morning.
Bad part is, my son was so excited to be home from his moms to work on it with me 😠
I know with the older single cam Evo motors to go over .520" lift on a new cam we had to clearance the case to keep the lobe from contacting. Also had to shim the cam to .015" clearance at the cam chest cover bushing. Not sure if that is an issue with the M8 but I'm sure if you called a local indy, he could give you the skinny on it all... Don't have to wait till Monday.....
When you put your gear and chain on it will keep it pulled out to where it will turn fine
+1 On this. Thread the cam gear bolt into the cam a little and the pull it forward. It will turn without issue. I had to leave the bolt (without washer) on there so I could get the gear on it as well.

You are the man RDC. Works great and the cam is awesome. Just have to figure out why I cannot get the idle below 2000 rpm. Tuner says it should be good, but no matter what I do it does not change much
What tuner do you have?
if powervision it should show where you idle is set at.
sounds like an intake leak, dont know for sure, but go back over everything you have done, dot your is and ts,you may find out what went wrong,if it run it cant be much.
Good idea I did not think about an air leak. I do have the Powervision and I even have it an offset of -1000 rpm and no change. I will have to pull the air cleaner apart and check it out.
Thanks again..

you can also put stock tune back in it and see if it idles where it should that will let you know if its the tune or not.

One thing to note here is I did not remove the throttle body, only the air cleaner and backing plate. Could an air leak at this level cause the idle issue?
