Default Cams for S&S T124

I heard that S&S T124 crate engine use proprietary mount on the oil pump/plate for the cams therefore requiring proprietary cams? Tried to look for information on this matter but couldn't find anything, what cam makers make compatible cams for S&S pumps? Thanks!!

What's really needed to use normal cams? Just the camplate or both plate and pump?

To install conventional 07-later cams in a T124 you would need a cam plate, oil pump, chains, tensioners,(or gear drive) & hardware. Also consider these motors are not machined for ACR's so you would either need to have the heads machined for compression releases or use S&S EZ start cams.

The proprietary S&S gear driven oil pump & plate that comes in the T engine is actually very robust, however it is a but more difficult to service than the standard style plate. S&S offers an assortment of cams for this plate which are identified by the -GPE designation and historically would grind most of their library by special order.

If you decide to go with different pate and pump setup than the SnS gear/cam driven pump, I'd strongly suggest using a pump that has dual scavenge gerotors, SnS or Thayer. The crankcase scavenge passage on SnS cases is too large for good scavenging. I had issues with a Fueling pump and SnS cases for over 10000 miles before finally changing over to an SnS pump that fits a standard style cam plate. No problems since.

Would S&S 625 or 635HO move my torque curve more to the left with everything else as is for T124 HC? Trying to steer clear of changing plates/pumps on brand new motor, too rich for my blood LOL 😅

From my understanding is that the 640's and the 585's are the only cams you can use for the S&S oil pump. If I'm wrong please let me know. I would like to swap my 585's out.

They have 635HO on their catalog for S&S pump, but I heard you can also special order from S&S with any grind from their library.
