Default Cam??

How is everyone doing? I have 2008 ultra classic with 96 inch motor. I was told that cam tensioner needs to be replaced. I'm working with a super tight budget, but figure while down there i would like to have better cam with more power without having to do any other work. The only upgrades i have so far are an Arlen Ness stage 1 big sucker air cleaner and Rhinehart true duals with 4 inch mufflers. All suggestions welcome. Thanks.

We are having great results lately with the S&S MR103, particularly if a .030" head gasket is introduced.
Just sent one home yesterday in a 107"/no headwork.......100 hp, 116 ft/lbs, sae, with almost flatline torque.

Nice.
We are going to build another 107" very soon with that cam, after conversation yesterday.
This time we are introducing our Stage II Heads.

You said your on a tight budget.
Unless you're doing the wrenching just do the tensioner.

Also, that engine is of the era where the cam chain tensioners are hydraulic as opposed to the older ones that were spring type and wore out quickly. What's the basis behind the recommendation? Have you personally experienced a bad hydraulic tensioner or is someone in your riding group suggesting it based on the spring tensioner issue?

And you say "cam chain tensioner", which one?

Inner cam bearing upgrade should be included the the scope of work for the cam chest work. The Andrews 48 is probably the best choice for a cam only upgrade in a touring model and not steering the OP away from the 48. However, if considering the MR-103, take a look at the Cyclerama 570-2 as well.
