Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Only time I have seen oil pumps break is with excessive crank run out. When ever I see that much metal in an engine. I pull engine apart. The oil filter will bypass and pistons will not live long with a clogged cooling jet. Splash oil in crank case cavity is pretty none existent with case design.
You are right, It's pretty much likely the motor is trashed after eating an oil pump.
so got a stock cam plate and pump on and seems to be working.. kinda
when i start the engine it sits at 0 psi for about a full minute before it slowly builds up to about 10psi at idle.. mid rpms about 30psi and high 50psi.. but once its hot it idles at 0-1psi and 20psi at higher rpms.. it still seems to overheat after about 30 minutes.. could it be the relief valve stuck open? seemed to slide smooth but if some crap was still in the oil could be hanging it up maybe..
and what is the difference from the oil pump with a slot and no o ring and one with just a circle hole and with an o ring? like whats the proper application of them? i changed from to another with this cam plate
ok that oil pressure guage was garbage.. swapped it with the one i had in my truck and cold start up idle 50psi and 10psi warm and 40-60 at higher rpm.. still gets hot after running a little while.. and a bit noisy
im still curious to figure out the correct application for the different oil pumps/cam plates..
I would stick with whatever oil pump design is called for in your application. There are definitely some differences in the cam plate that accepts the o-ringed oil pump and the non o-ringed pump.
