Default Can anyone help me identify this engine?

I have my dad's 1995 fxd that he bought from someone in 2010. The previous owner put a Screamin' Eagle engine on it, but I am dead ending on every way I can think of to search to find the specifics of the engine.

It needs new spark plugs, as best I can tell, but I'd really prefer to buy them knowing exactly the engine I'm buying them for. I'm including pics in the hopes that someone might be able to help me figure out how to specifically identify the engine. Also, on the cooling fin that is near the front of the bike, just above the exhaust pipe, it has the numbers 10839-98.

Not sure if any of that info helps, but if there's another piece of information I can provide that will help, let me know. I'd really like to be certain of the engine that's on it.

Do the current plugs have a # on them?

Yea, that's just the SE heads on an Evo bottom end. Nothing special. Possible S&S stroker crank though. You can pull the timing window and spin the crank manually to see if there's any numbers on the flywheel. If there is you can cross that with the S&S database and see what crank it is.

Does that stamped engine number match the number on the frame? There should be a vin number on the frame.

As mentioned, chances are it is the stock engine that came with the bike back in 1995, and screamin eagle heads were added to the stock engine.

Not sure if the screamin eagle heads require a different than stock spark plug. Probably not. Just cross reference the plugs you have with what should have came with the stock engine.

EDIT, found some info on your heads, see attachment.

I would not worry about spark plugs; NGK DCPR9E or Champion R8HC should be fine.

If the cylinders and heads are twin cam and the lower unit is Evo, it is sort of special; it is what has been tagged a "Fatvo". Building one of those on Evo cases requires a fair amount of machine work on the cases and heads. Push rod angle is different which requires machining the push rod openings in the cylinder head. Never built one but from what I have read about them, those motors built on Evo cases usually self destruct around 95-100 HP. Most that know what they are doing build those motors on Delkron cases. Honestly, I don't know why anyone would go to the trouble or expense to build one.

Having said that, I did say "if" the cylinders and heads are twin cam and the cases Evo but I am no an Evo expert and I can't tell. It would be interesting to find out the origin of the motor but if it is a Fatvo, I would sell it; it could turn into a black hole for $$.

But it probably is what others have identified as nothing as mysterious as a Fatvo but it does make for interesting discussion.

Disregard previous attachment, see the one below, I'm thinking the cylinders look like twin cam...

Thanks, it occurred to me it could just be the heads after I posted, but was doing the work thing and didn't get a chance to look until now. Big thanks on pointing out the VIN and engine number - they do match, so now I know it's just the heads and not the whole engine. (Slight disappointment there, but not a big deal.)

This is one of the most difficult things about inheriting the bike and my dad not really being able to explain everything that was done to it. (He also was never very good about taking care of his stuff + would occasionally do crazy @$$ $#!^ or gimmicky things to try to make things faster for cheap...)

I have to admit, I don't know enough about things like spring height and seat pressure to know - should I understand that to have an impact on plugs, or is it just some information that could be useful to me in general?

Based on the info and advice above - I'll verify the plugs in it now match stock, and if they do, just buy more like that. If they don't, I'll deal with that if it happens...

Swap that air cleaner out for almost anything else out there and you'll pick up a few horsepower!!!

Honestly, more interested in stable, consistently running when I want to ride it rather than HP (or torque).

I really have no frame of reference for what is good or crap/b.s. on these engines.

Is the air cleaner on it something gimmicky or silly?

EDIT: Also - what are good places to buy parts and gear, if someone would be so kind as to make recommendations. I've got a helmet on the way from RevZilla, and they and J&P Cycles seem to be the ones at the top (or paying to be top) of Google search results.
